Mission: To foster a healthy urban environment and sustainable food system by educating, networking, sharing resources, and creating community gardens.
Vision: We envision people throughout our city inspired and nourished by gardening in community, with deep connections to our earth, our health, our cultures, and our neighbors.
Values: Sustainability, Diversity, Compassion, Enthusiasm, and Teamwork all support our vision and help us carry out our mission.
History: Diggin’ Shoreline began in 2009 when a group of passionate community members came together to promote community gardening in Shoreline, WA. Their first project, the Ballinger Neighborhood Community Garden, launched in 2010 and set the stage for more gardens, partnerships, and events. In 2011, they officially adopted the name “Diggin’ Shoreline” and held their first fundraisers, educational classes, and strategic planning sessions. By 2012, the organization expanded its community outreach through seasonal gatherings, classes, and events like the grand opening of Twin Ponds Garden and the launch of their Fall Harvest potluck. A major milestone came that fall with the approval of their 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. In 2013, Diggin’ continued to grow with more gardens, classes, and community engagement, sharing their vision for a more connected and sustainable Shoreline through gardening.
Diggin' Shoreline is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer non-profit organization. We depend solely on volunteers and donations to sustain our work in the community.
